Exhaust your singleness

This is a post about the beauty of being single! I feel as though we can often place so much emphasis on being married that at times we can forget what it means to be single.

The title is a quote from Janette…ikz – one of the most amazing poets I know! You can listen to her poem “I will wait for you” below where she talks about how she will wait for her husband but at the same time she will be building her character through God’s grace.

I will wait for you by Janette…ikz

We, at Streams of Beauty Magazine, think it is so important for you to love whatever season you are in concerning your marital status. Whatever happens, the Lord has put you in that season for a reason and we are called to trust that God works all things for our good and that He will provide all of our needs if we seek Him (Matthew 6:33).

1 Corinthians 7:33-34 says:

But a married man has to think about his earthly responsibilities and how to please his wife. His interests are divided. In the same way, a woman who is no longer married or has never been married can be devoted to the Lord and holy in body and in spirit. But a married woman has to think about her earthly responsibilities and how to please her husband.

Both marriage and singleness are seasons to rejoice in! The married can be used to live to God’s glory and so can single people. While you’re single (and your attention isn’t divided) maybe you can think about ways to exhaust your singleness. We have created some tips that we think may be helpful, although this is not an extended list. It’s just something to give a helping hand.

Tip 1

Travel, travel, travel! Go and see/experience different places in the world. Grab a few friends and find an opportunity to explore somewhere that’s not the city you already live in! Travelling is so much fun (once you’ve done the packing and left all of the airport queues) and when you’re having so much fun you don’t really have time to sit down and think about being single.

Tip 2

Join a Church ministry. This cannot be emphasised enough, use this time when you have an abundance of freedom to serve God whole-heartedly. Having a ministry is a great way to start living a life which glorifies the Father. Ensure that it is a ministry you can commit time to and one that you have prayerfully entered.

Tip 3

Pray! Pray for your future spouse, your future children, your marriage and the generations that will come as a result of your marriage. Prayer is so vital to our everyday life and we should try to pray/talk to God about everything. When you pray, remember to trust that God will do what He says He will too!

Tip 4

Find hobbies that you love! Hobbies are great – from being in a choir, to going to the theatre, to visiting art galleries, to having jam sessions… there are so many hobbies that you can embark on! Hobbies are also a great way to meet people similar to you – which means more social events! YAY!

I hope these tips have helped you, let us know if you have any of your own in the comment section!
