Chase Your Dreams!

This week I’m going to be giving some encouragement with regards to chasing your dreams. By this, I mean actually stepping out and going places or doing things to get closer to achieving the aspirations that you have. The Bible states that faith without works is dead (James 2:26) and so even if we don’t know how it is going to pan out, we can take the necessary steps – with faith – to reaching our goals.

I’m going to map out how this can be done in a few steps.

Research, Research, Research!

This cannot be emphasised enough (hence the repetition in the sub-heading)! We need to be intentional about achieving our dreams and this includes KNOWING what it is that you desire to step into. If you are going to bake a cake for the first time, one of the vital things you will need is the recipe. The recipe tells you which ingredients you will require in order to actually make the cake; it also gives you a realistic expectation of how long it make take to bake the cake.

It’s the same with branching out into new territory. If your dream involves stepping out into something you have not experienced before then it is going to be very similar. You will need to know the ingredients (skills) you are required to have, the order in which those ingredients need to be added (strategic planning) and finally how long it may take to bake the cake (time frame to reaching your goal). Doing research also means that you will have realistic expectations and not expect the anomaly which is success over night. Sometimes, and I know no-one wants to hear this, you have to work for success! The plus side is that working and studying will make you appreciate reaching your goal so much more than if you obtained it without having to do any work at all.

Pray about it!

Okay, so you know the Bible verse…

“A man plans his way, but the Lord directs his steps.” (Proverbs 16:9)

It is possible to sit down and plan it all out based on the research you have done but in order for it to go the way God wants it to go, it is important to be intentional in allowing Him to lead. Research is a way to gain even more insight into what you should be praying for and asking God to show you how this dream can manifest into something where you can still be used for His glory.

I personally believe that we should pray about anything and everything. Chasing your dream is something that is massive and it is so important to ask the Holy Spirit to go before you. Imagine the doors that will open if God is on your side! And then when you make it, God will get all of the glory! How amazing is that?!

Don’t be afraid to try new things!

Now you’ve done some research and you have prayed about the dream that you feel has been laid on your heart, it’s time to start doing things a little bit differently.

By this, I mean that you should be willing to step out into new situations and try to walk down new paths that you haven’t tried before. For example, if your dream is to become a lawyer you may have to visit law firms that you have never visited before. You may have to send emails and send out many CV’s and application forms. But this time, you are only focusing on the best places!

These are my three top tips on how to start chasing your dream. I hope these are helping for you taking the first few steps!

If you have any tips, I’d love to hear them. Leave your suggestions in the comments section…
