Speak Love Only

I want to set a challenge for the rest of the month of December!

The challenge is to make a conscious effort to speak lovingly. To speak words of love, grace and peace over yourself, your circumstances and more importantly over others.

This challenge involves being aware of the words that you speak and the power that you have as a child of God.

Ephesians 4:29 (AMP) says, ‘Do not let unwholesome [foul, profane, worthless, vulgar] words ever come out of your mouth, but only such speech as is good for building up others, according to the need and the occasion, so that it will be a blessing to those who hear [you speak].’

And so the challenge is very much based around this verse. That the words that come out of our mouths this month should be seasoned with grace and and it should do good in building up others. The words we utter should be a blessing to those who hear it and it should encourage them to seek God. Hopefully, the more you begin to show love through the words you speak, people will begin to question why it is that you are different and what it is that sets you apart from everyone else. My hope is that in asking those questions, they might be able to encounter the Father.

This also means that where you might find it difficult or tricky to be around certain people, you have to speak positively about them. Where you might have felt that someone was annoying before, you now have to say a little prayer for them and bless them with your words. What’s that I hear? Forgiveness? Oh, yeah baby it’s timeeeee.

If work is getting stressful and you’re finding it hard to cope, instead of complaining – do something about it. Ask for help and then start to bless your career. Pray that it will be filled with an undeniable peace and that where the workload seems heavy it will begin to feel light.

Finally, make an effort to tell your family (and friends if it’s not too awkward lol) that you love them. Remind the people around you why they are special by complimenting them on something about them that you admire or love. We really shouldn’t underestimate the value of a compliment or a verbal show of appreciation.

So join the challenge today and let’s all start to speak words of love only. If you happen to slip up, don’t worry just start again. This is about trying to make that conscious effort to carry out Ephesians 4:29. Anyone else excited to give this a try?
