I read a book recently by Timothy Keller entitled The Freedom of Self Forgetfulness.
When I first saw the title, I was intrigued. Why would would forgetting yourself be freeing? Why was it a good thing? Or even something to be sought after?
Upon reading the book, I can say, with my hands up that forgetting myself is one of the best things that I can do. Forgetting all about me and focusing on God.
Keller writes the book in a compelling way, with a clear structure that is easy to follow. A mere 49 pages, there a numerous nuggets of information to take away from this book. With the world’s view that being self focused is wholly good tucked into the back of our minds, Keller challenges this perception. Sorry, did I challenges? He takes it, rips it in to tiny shreds and throws it into the garbage.
Rating: This will probably take you anywhere between an hour and a few days to finish depending on how you like to read – in snippets or all at once. Overall, it is a great read and one that will encourage you on your walk with God.
